Rahab

The Sun-Gilt Palace of the Rahab is the setting of Crimson Shroud. Located in Sinner's Gulch, territory held by violent Goblins whose presence discourages the average would-be explorer, the palace is home to a variety of even more dangerous beasts.

History[]

A thousand years ago, before the arrival of the gifts, a warrior of the ruling caste united the clans and defeated the warring barbarian tribes of the region, before becoming king (or "solis", in ancient Yingeel). He handpicked twelve ministers, the Chosen of the Solis, to serve him, and around this time, gifted this palace to his queen (the rahab).

It is originally told during Chapter 2 that this king grew arrogant, lost the trust of his people, and traded his soul to the Devil in exchange for magic power. The Conclave, who insist that the gifts originate with God, dismiss the story as a faerie tale. But the Defense of Heresy later reveals a slightly different truth: that the Yingeel kingdom was in fact the Qish homeland, and a woman named Abigail, one of the Chosen of the Solis, was accused of impropriety for loving the king. Mad with grief, faced with an unfair execution, she bargained with a demon from the Dark Lands who had come to her. It bestowed the Original Gift upon her, giving her the power to kill the solis and the rahab before turning on the rest of the land. Unable to kill her outright, the other ministers bartered their own souls to keep her sealed in the Palace of the Rahab, and to fend off any others who might inadvertently free her.

Brilliant in its prime, the palace is now a crumbling ruin.
